I think gender recognition always boils down to a guessing game. Think about it, sometimes we people even guess wrong.
I agree about the constant mentioning of PSEye to a degree. In fact, I am sick of all the stupid comparisons of everything. I think PS fans bring it up, though, because PSEye has been doing a lot of these things for awhile, then Natal (which DOES do more) gets announced and people are suddenly talking about facial recognition and voice commands like they have ...

I will probably try for GoW III, and maybe go back to try GoW and GoW II. Funny story, I was only 300 red orbs from getting the "upgrade all weapons and magic" trophy in GoW.
I only go for the platinum if I am still enjoying the game enough to make the effort. I played Uncharted 2 three more times AFTER getting the Platinum.
Exactly, a game doesn't have to sell 5 million copies to be successful. As long as it makes its money back and makes sales goals, then it is a success. Not to make the "video games and movies" comparison, but both industries need the big blockbusters AND the smaller, more experimental stuff. "Heavy Rain" is like the "Slumdog Millionaire" of video games (except larger budget). It wasn't expected to be big, but was very good and saw success because of that.
LevDog, i agree with you that Sony has been much more open and, based on what we've been shown, Move just works better, but Guntrol is right, too. Microsoft is really good at keeping things secret in order to make the biggest impact with reveals. Let's see how E3 goes before making judgments either way.
One thing is for sure though, however well Natal works (or doesn't) and whatever games it gets, Microsoft is going to make sure that it puts on a good show. People who have bee...
I'm sure it's just set up to ignore anything past a certain distance. There certainly will be optimum distances depending on how much of you it needs to see and how much detail it needs to see. That might be why some reports say it can't detect finger movements and some say it can.
Watch that video that Whateva linked to. Gender recognition is all software and can be done with face only. It actually looks at your face and somehow calculates probabilities of whether you are male or female, and approximate age, then whichever probability is higher is the one it goes with.
Don't worry though, just because the PSEye can do much of what Natal does doesn't mean Natal can't do things that the PSEye can't. Natal is going to bring some really cool things to the t...
Yeah, one camera does the 3D stuff, the other is a RGB camera. The RGB camera could be used for facial recognition (part of which is gender recognition), or any normal video feed stuff. I would imagine that some games will use the RGB camera only, if they can get away with it, to save resources (though the developers will probably never admit it). I imagine it can also combine the RGB feed with the 3D information for some really cool augmented reality stuff.
One cool thing abo...
There has been some conflicting reports about the sensitivity. I have seen articles that say Natal can detect finger movements, and I have seen articles saying that it doesn't. We'll have to wait until we have more information.
Also, One thing most people are not realizing about Natal, though, is that it doesn't HAVE to use the 3D imaging. It has a RGB camera that can be used for more limited functions without having to use as much system resources. Those things could also be...
I was actually a little disappointed at Sony because of that commercial because i felt like they "stooped" a little. They usually take a higher road. This article is just plain bitter, juvenile fanboy ranting, though.
It looks to be gesture based rather than 1:1, which was the reason for the lag on the GDC demonstration (it has to see the full gesture and interpret it before it can start the animation). You might want to wait for the hopefully inevitable "Fight Night on Move" announcement.
It's a lot like all the reports we've been seeing lately that have been praising Natal. Why do you have a problem with it this time? Oh, I think I have a guess...
Bubbles to you for your thoughts on fanboys. The only thing you maybe should have added is that the PS3 fanboys are also making judgements about Natal without having seen anything substantive.
I find it suspicious that Microsoft has kept very tight control over who sees Natal and in what conditions, but Microsoft always holds their hand close to their vest and might have a blow-out E3 by showing things that people think are impossible. Or Natal could be a huge, laggy mess. Let...
What they were talking about is "removing the controller barrier." Controllers are intimidating to casuals, so taking away that barrier by introducing a controller-free experience opens up the market more. I don't think they've ever said that controllers are going to go away, they just stressed the controller-free stuff because it's the stand-out feature of their product.
Articles like this, which thrive on N4G, are the equivalent of the "Jen and Brad caught kissing" articles you see on grocery store lanes (just saw that one as I was picking up syrup yesterday morning), sensationalism.
That said, I just can't seem to kick my N4G habit. There's just no other place where I can get as much video game "news", though there are places where I can get much BETTER video game NEWS.
The main draw of the series has indeed been the single-player, but not necessarily the story-lines. Hear me out, now... The main draw has been the missions and puzzling your way through them. I think if, indeed, some of the other modes are playable as single-player, that would fit into the "main draw." The campaign may (or may not) be short, but if you can add in a few more hours with a similar mode, that would fit into the "main draw."
It think he's just letting us know what to expect from the campaign.
It's not the size of your ****, it's how much enjoyment it gives.
(of course, "****" = "game")
Seriously, though, SC:C has a 5 hr campaign (probably longer), but has more game modes; GoW III can be finished in about 8 hours, but will take most people longer and is so awesome you may want to play it multiple times.
"Showing at one companie's [sic] press conference likely means a timed-exclusive at best in this day and age."
"AT BEST"? Do we really have a hobby where it's seen as good to limit the number of people who can play a good game? Do golfers say "I'm so happy that only certain people can play on this course."? Do football fans say "It's too bad the other team's fans get to watch the Superbowl too."? I'm sure that's not the point the writer...
Of those two articles, I believe the one that supports my point of view. The other one is clearly lying.
To be honest, there's no reason do believe or disbelieve either one of them. Let's wait until E3. Though the only thing that will change then is people will be arguing over a product that has a real name.
The Move itself obviously has the face buttons, START, and SELECT. The "T" button probably translates to the R2 and the "action" button probably translates to R1. It doesn't have an analogue stick, so it is missing the R3. The Navigator has L1, L2, and extra X and O buttons, in addition to the D-pad and analogue stick, which probably has L3. They both have the "PS" button. The only button that is missing is the R3, which only gets limited use usually.
